I baked a special cake for my friend Nick’s birthday party. It is so exciting to bake cakes for my friends’ birthdays so they don’t have to buy and eat storebought cake. He wanted a lavender cake, so I made this lavender layer cake with lavender Swiss meringue buttercream, berries, candied lemon, and fresh cherries on top. I went for a “naked cake” look after watching the fourth season of the Netflix series “Chef’s Table” in which Christina Tosi, owner of Milk Bar, creates cakes that are not frosted on the outside. The lavender I used was “therapeutic grade” essential oil, which I read was higher than food grade. We all ate it and survived, so it must’ve been ok!
