Summertime can be fun, but it can also be boring. My friends, Karla and Liz, and I were bored one summer day, so we decided to bake a six-layer cake. Just “normal” teenage girl things. We used Australian baker Katherine Sabbath’s raspberry and cream striped buttercream cake recipe. I wanted to show my friends that difficult things can be achieved if we worked together. They helped crack eggs and measure ingredients, but I took the lead. We also had fun marbling dark and white chocolate together to make a pretty cake topper. However, we didn’t have any chocolate on hand so we made the topper with candy melts (blegh!) so it ended up tasting like sugar wax. With a cake that tall, 1 serving ends up being a pretty narrow slice.
