Every year for as long as I can remember, my family has had a tradition of making and decorating gingerbread houses. While my mom made the houses from scratch when I was younger, more recently sometimes my sister Natalie and I have made the dough, cut the house shapes, baked, and assembled the houses. Every year we get to invite a few friends to decorate their own houses. Tons of candy, frosted mini wheats, pretzels, gumdrops, and almost anything edible you can think of, is glued on with icing, and stuck to cardboard poster foam board. It’s a fun way to be creative and see what everyone makes! Sometimes we get into teams and have competitions to see who can make the best house. After the holiday season, my friends have usually eaten their houses, but we take the houses to the backyard and (carefully) set them on fire and watch them burn… 🔥
